'That baby is cooked': Expecting mom chooses to announce baby to ChatGPT before telling any people

In just a few short years, ChatGPT has gone from being a relative novelty to the most-downloaded app in the world. Devotees champion using it for just about anything that involves words and numbers, and many students these days wouldn't put themselves through school without it. Whatever you might think of what it produces, the variety of things that people have decided it is useful for is undeniable. 

As the generative AI revolution has continued, it has become increasingly clear that a worrying number of people believe that one of its most important functions is as one of their closest relationships. They consider it to be a friend, therapist, or even a lover, there to satisfy their longing for the kind of connection that they presumably cannot find elsewhere. Sam Altman himself has theorized that the attachment of some to a robot comes from the fact that they have never been supported by anyone, and they become dependent on the validation they get as a result.

  • Still, there are many, many situations where you might imagine that you would rather talk to a human being before a large language model. One of these is when you find out that you are expecting a baby. This was a point that was raised after a mom-to-be confessed to the internet that ‘Chat’ was the first to know when she found out the news. It is fair to say that this wasn't received with resounding applause, with many taking it as further proof of how AI is making society worse.

    lay@laychips_ the scariest thing about people using chat like a diary/therapist is that they have no legal responsibility to be upheld to hipaa standards. like there's no protections. in the event that you get subpoenaed, they HAVE to give up those chat logs and they CAN be used against you.
