‘Mom raised three great kids… and then there’s you’: Brother uses mom's birthday toast to insult sibling, leading to sibling walking out of dinner, family takes brother's side

Correct me if I'm wrong, but typically when someone makes a toast to honor someone else, it mainly focuses on the honored person and their achievements. Why use someone's celebration to insult someone else?

This question is mainly directed to the brother in the story below, in case you were wondering. He decided to use his toast during his mother's birthday dinner to insult his sibling. He congratulated their mother for raising great and successful children… except one. For some reason, the entire family, including Mom, found this insult to be a hilarious joke, and everyone laughed. Well, everyone except the sibling, who did not appreciate being the subject of this cruel toast.

Feeling no desire to stay where they are not respected, the sibling walked out of dinner. The family thought they had overreacted, and only further proved that maybe this family does not deserve this sibling's love and affection.
