Neighbor says that woman isn't being "neighborly" for repeatedly asking her not to block her driveway: 'She rolled her eyes and said I’m being uptight because it’s "not like [she's] damaging it"'

There are a whole lot of us in this world, and each of us has a different perspective. For instance, you might think your neighbor is insane for blocking your driveway. Meanwhile, they're wondering why you're being so inflexible and not understanding their need to use it. There's a completely different perspective at play in these situations, and the truth often lies in between.

You are, of course, right in this case: Your neighbor is insane. There are almost no instances where you should be blocking someone's direct access to their home, and those few exceptions would be one-offs and not repeated. Making this a bad example for arguments for equivocation.

While there are plenty of other situations in life where you have to take a step back and evaluate how measured your feelings actually are concerning a petty disagreement, it takes a special kind of person to block someone's private driveway despite being repeatedly asked not to. The audacity on display here, along with the complete disregard for the owner of the driveway's wishes, pushes the entire pattern of behavior into lunacy.

It would be one thing if this were the first instance of the behavior and the driveway owner was making a mountain out of a proverbial molehill. But to continuously repeat the same behavior is entitlement bordering on insanity.

    "AITJ for asking my neighbor to stop parking in my driveway even though she says it’s 'just for a few minutes'?"

    I (33F) live in a duplex with a single-car driveway that I actually use. My neighbor (40sF) has a bigger family and multiple cars. For the past few months, she's been pulling into my driveway "just for a bit" when she can't find street parking. Sometimes it's literally while I'm on my way home from work, and I have to wait for her to come out and move.

    I finally told her I don't want anyone parking in my driveway, period. She rolled her eyes and said I'm being uptight because it's "not like I'm damaging it" and it's "only temporary." Last week I came home with groceries, she was blocking me again, and I had to sit there honking until she came out. I told her if it happens again, I'll have her car towed. She called me a j and said I should be "neighborly" instead of acting like I "own the street." AITJ for putting my foot down?

    Queen MotherOfSneezes NTJ. You're not acting like you own the street, you're acting like you own the driveway, which you do. Absolutely have her car towed the next time, you've given her enough warnings, and she clearly has no respect for your property, nor your time. You've had to waste a considerable amount of it repeatedly waiting for "just a few minutes" so you can use your own property, which you have expressly told her she's not allowed to use.

    imme629 NTJ. Your neighbor is. If she's blocking your use of your own driveway, she's the unneighborly one. I'd suggest making sure you can legally tow her vehicle in your jurisdiction and put a no parking sign unauthorized vehicles will be towed.
