‘I want him to feel at home’: Sister demands brother allow her dog to sleep in his room while he is staying in her apartment, he refuses, family takes sister's side

Whenever we have friends over and they ask us to put our cats in a room while they visit, we always say it's the cats' house more than it is ours. They live there much more than we do, they have been on literally every single furniture, and frankly, there's not much we can do to stop them from going where they want to go. If a houseguest of ours has a problem with that, well, they can go visit someone who doesn't have a pet.

That being said, we do draw the line somewhere. If someone is staying the night, we respect that person's boundaries and respect the fact that they may not want a cat to walk all over them during the night. We even get annoyed by our cats when they decide to wake us up at 5 in the morning for a play session. 

The person in the story below is living through this exact problem. He is staying at his sister's apartment while his place gets renovated, and his sister has a dog, Max. She wants her brother to let Max into his bedroom at night, because she wants Max to feel at home. 

The brother, however, is not really comfortable with this request…

    eefr NTA. Why does the dog need to sleep in your room? The justification makes zero sense and doesn't trump your actual medical problem. "I have allergies" should have been the end of the discussion.

While I deeply appreciate sister taking me in while my apartment is being renovated, it's pretty clear that we don't cohabitate well as adults. And, I'm allergic to Max. So I am going to take off for the remainder of the week and "insert activity here." I find it really hurtful that you all seem to equate my desire to sleep without max as "not caring about fami
