'It's like she can't control it': Couple adopts adorable 10-month old kitten, but wife won't stop interrupting her husband to show him how cute the kitten is and honestly, we've never felt more seen

One of your responsibilities, nay, your duties as a cat owner is to inform your brother, sister, partner, mom, or dad every time your cat does something cute. No action is too small to announce to the world that they must gaze upon your cat doing this awwdorable thing, or else it will be the end of the free world as we know it. Such actions include, but are not limited to: falling asleep in a purrfectly funny pawsition, doing a biiiiiiiiiig stretch, meowing cutely (or at all), playing with a random object, or simply just sitting with the light hitting them in the purrfect way. 

It's a law that you must inform someone (or the internet) every time any of these things happen, and yes, it is a very hard job, but someone has to do it. Even if it means interrupting said purrson every 2-3 minutes. You're even allowed to wake them up while they're sleeping. They may get annoyed by it, like the husband in the post below, but honestly, we understand his wife and her awwdoration of their newly adopted kitten. One day, the kitten will be a senior cat, and he will wish he had paid more attention to it when it was a teeny, tiny thing.

    My wife won't stop requesting I look at the cat being cute

    We got Dobbie about 10 months ago from the shelter. He was 10 months old and the previous owner had passed away. Thankfully he has no behavioral issues and he's extremely friendly and cuddly. The problem I'm having isn't with the cat, but my wife. I'm not joking when I say that every 2-3 minutes she asks me to look at how cute he's being, how he's positioned his body weirdly while laying down, or various meows when she pets him.

    I think he's really cute too, but it's getting really repetitive and despite asking her to give the dogs some attention she won't stop. It's like she can't control it. I told her I was taking a few days break from looking at the cat to focus on giving the dogs attention and she has resorted to bringing Dobbie into whatever room I'm in and holding him directly in front of my eyes. Anyone else experience this?

  • Well, she's not wrong. Dobbie is very cute and very fluffy. We would also annoy our partner constantly if we just adopted them. But, we think this phase will pass, and it seems like more of a relationship problem than a cat problem. Dobbie hasn't done anything wrong, but they do seem to have a problem with communication.

  • We love it when the internet comes through with actually useful advice. These communication techniques are actually quite helpful! If you can't communicate with your partner, even about something silly like setting boundaries about cute cat interruptions, then your relationship is set for a rocky course.

    take too much time. It sounds like a connection point for her, and it's harmless. After three times, just say "that was fun honey, he sure is cute, but I have other things I need to do now." If she's reasonable, she'll understand. If she's unreasonable, well, that's an entirely different issue.

    Opakus Is the problem that your wife is interrupting you, or that you feel the dogs aren't getting enough attention? It's not really clear as I don't think these are the same problem.

    If she's interrupting you from focusing on other things, just communicate that you need some focus time and to please respect your boundaries. Maybe you can put your phone on do not disturb so she can send you cat photos to look at later without it pinging you.

    If it's about the dogs not getting attention and it's her responsibility to play, and walk them then talk to her about it? If it's a shared responsibility you could set up a roster, do it together or do it yourself, hire someone to walk the dogs. Lots of options here.
