My wife won't stop requesting I look at the cat being cute

'She has resorted to bringing Dobbie into whatever room I'm in and holding him directly in front of my eyes'

We got Dobbie about 10 months ago from the shelter. He was 10 months old and the previous owner had passed away. Thankfully he has no behavioral issues and he's extremely friendly and cuddly. The problem I'm having isn't with the cat, but my wife. I'm not joking when I say that every 2-3 minutes she asks me to look at how cute he's being, how he's positioned his body weirdly while laying down, or various meows when she pets him.

I think he's really cute too, but it's getting really repetitive and despite asking her to give the dogs some attention she won't stop. It's like she can't control it. I told her I was taking a few days break from looking at the cat to focus on giving the dogs attention and she has resorted to bringing Dobbie into whatever room I'm in and holding him directly in front of my eyes. Anyone else experience this?

ColdInteraction994 I actually think I suffer from whatever your wife suffers from.

Evinshir To be fair, cats have evolved to be preternaturally cute and they know how to do cute things that get attention.

poshknight123 We love our cats. We always say "cute babies" to each other. We're always telling each other to "look at those babies." We send pictures. They are SO CUTE.

My guy, please diffuse your annoyance with a little humor. "You get thee more 'looks at Dobbie' tonight, honey, use them wisely." Then really overdo it those three times. Annoying, yes, but 1 minute of slobber over a kitty can be kind of fun and doesn't really

take too much time. It sounds like a connection point for her, and it's harmless. After three times, just say "that was fun honey, he sure is cute, but I have other things I need to do now." If she's reasonable, she'll understand. If she's unreasonable, well, that's an entirely different issue.

themiscyras no offense dawg but "I was taking a few days break from looking at the cat to focus on giving the dogs attention" made me laugh out loud. what

Opakus Is the problem that your wife is interrupting you, or that you feel the dogs aren't getting enough attention? It's not really clear as I don't think these are the same problem.
  • 14
If she's interrupting you from focusing on other things, just communicate that you need some focus time and to please respect your boundaries. Maybe you can put your phone on do not disturb so she can send you cat photos to look at later without it pinging you.

If it's about the dogs not getting attention and it's her responsibility to play, and walk them then talk to her about it? If it's a shared responsibility you could set up a roster, do it together or do it yourself, hire someone to walk the dogs. Lots of options here.

Both issues kind of sound unrelated to the cat and more about communicating boundaries and expectations to be honest.

RaspberryVespa This sounds like a "you" problem, and not a "her" problem...just look at Dobbie!! LOL, but seriously, its a new baby (even after 10 months). She's enamoured. It will taper off soon. Maybe he's just her favorite.

MeisterFluffbutt All these comments hyper analyzing this... Wife is just enarmored. It'll taper off naturally. Congratz on the cute cat! Also, very valid points with the dogs, i hope she'll see it soon, too :)

midimummy I'm sorry, I know you're bothered but her hunting you down to shove the cat in front of your face is hilarious... picturing a staring contest where the three of you aren't moving

ohboyitsnat OP I think you should do a little reading on bids for connection and how they work/why they matter.

boxdkittens Tell her to make an instagram for the cat so she can outsource getting him the attention she thinks he deserves to the internet, because you alone can't supply enough attention.

This is what I did for my cat, because I didn't want to spam my partner with pictures of her, but gold in do I need people to see my cat!!
