Jealousy and envy are so human, but can look so ugly. Everyone gets jealous sometimes. If you feel unsafe in a relationship, then jealousy is just your body and mind telling you that you could be in danger. Even for very secure people, there's always that one person that makes you uncomfortable around your partner. But you would never want it to be your own kid.
In this story, the protagonist is a man who's just divorced his wife over her jealous towards their own daughter. The daughter is 6-years-old, and the mom cries and complains that her husband is giving their daughter too much attention, and that she feels like she's the "other woman." It's a really perverse and psychotic way to view your child. If it were me in that situation then I would do the same. There's no point trying to make it work with someone who's so far gone.
