'You guys are so stingy': Employee treats birthday celebrations like it's her personal buffet, coworkers start quietly ordering food amongst themselves without inviting her

There's always one person in every office who manages to turn even the smallest celebration into a performance. For this workplace, that person was Mara. Birthdays used to be a cheerful, low-effort tradition with a cake, some snacks, maybe a pizza if someone was feeling generous. Everyone chipped in, and everyone shared... except Mara, who somehow made every party about her.

Whenever it was someone else's birthday, she'd stroll up to their desk and say, "Your treat today!" What started as a harmless joke quickly became a pattern. Every single time a cake was cut, Mara was there with a plate ready, but never her wallet.

Then came her own birthday. She hyped it up for a week, dropping not-so-subtle reminders in the group chat. Naturally, people assumed she was planning something. But on the day itself, she simply asked, "So… where are my treats?"

That was the breaking point.

Her coworkers stopped looping her in on future celebrations. They quietly ordered food and enjoyed their cake without her.
Mara called them stingy. Everyone else called it peace.
