Supervisor accidentally shares 2026 team budget, reveals longest-serving employee is being paid the least: 'One new hire earns double what I'm getting'

    My supervisor was sharing his screen during a meeting, he accidentally shared something but it was removed quickly. However, the meeting was recorded and I reviewed the recording to find it was our team 2026 budget along with compensation of every employee.

  • I discovered I am one of the lowest paid employees, despite being one of the longest tenured and most experienced. One particular new hire from the last few months earns double what I'm getting, despite no prior knowledge of our company and its products.

  • JackDeth7 Before you do anything that you'll regret later, read your employee code of conduct (or whatever your company calls it) and make absolutely certain that discussing compensation is not a violation of the policy.

  • rock300867 Just throwing this out there. Just because you have been at a job a long time and have experience does not make you the most productive or knowledgeable. Every employee thinks they are the best one at the company. You would also need to look at what you bring to the table.
  • They may have had to bring the newer people in at the higher rate if they wanted them. Typically, in order to get big pay raises you need to job jump. If you stay with a company for a long time you typically get 2-5% raise per year. Not bagging on the OP, just stating how it is done in the real world. I am an engineering manager and that is the environment we live in today.
  • Don't be afraid to look for another job to get paid. Just do your homework so that you are the newer employee with the higher pay. Good Luck!
