Recently I met a beautiful cat in a small local botanical garden in my city. At first I thought she was looking wel so she must be living nearby. However I'm told that her previous owner dumped her and that she's now a stray. I've noticed she's getting skinnier and so I've been feeding her wet food (with added water) and kibble.

I was asked if I wanted to take her home with me and I definitely would, but atm I'm renovating my whole home so for the time being that's not a good idea. I live downtown and have no garden and also wouldn't like to let her outside with all the traffic and people. I do have a fairly large home and my previous cat who I got from the shelter (she was nine when I got her and lived 11 years with me) had the largest bedroom all for herself.

As winter is approaching, I've built her a shelter that I'm allowed to place somewhere in the garden. I quickly build something from leftover wood and only need to sand it a bit and paint it. I'm thinking about putting in straw/hemp and a blanket. The caretakers of the garden are sympathetic to the cat and think it's a great idea to give her a shelter.

I would like to get some feedback on what you think would be the best course of action.

Update: I just went back even tho the garden is closed. I opened a can of wet food and waited outside of the gate while calling her. I will return tomorrow morning with the carrier.. | really hope she doesn't mind me catnapping her!

I've placed the shelter I made in the kitchen with blankets. Placed bowls near it with kibble and mineral water. Opposite of the kitchen I placed the litter box. I've build a cat scratching post for my neighbour's cat because they couldn't afford one so I can do that again easily.

tapittoohoo My two cats lived through our renovation. It was quite hard on my one girl, we had gutted the whole house. If you have a safe place to tuck her away from the renovation, I would take her home and love her to death, she looks so sweet (assuming it's a she). If not, I think the loud noises could be very difficult for her. Keep feeding her and seeing her all the time at the garden, when you are ready, take her home.

KhanHaz OP I went to the garden this morning and brought her home.. she's currently napping in the kitchen where I've provided some comfort for her.. I posted an update with pics but apparently I'm not allowed because it's within 48 hours. Didn't know that, I don't post often on Reddit.. but I will repost the update with pics soon :)

AndOneForMahler- I would invite her in regardless of my renovation status. That is one lovely kitty. You'll feel better if you do it.

DrewOH816 The Cat Distribution System has found you! You should take her home and enjoy. See if she likes walks, on a leash, in a carrier and be happy. What a beautiful cat!!
