‘I got her fired’: Employee refuses to cover for coworker's shift, so coworker lies to boss about finding a cover, gets fired when no one arrives at work

Working with your friends has advantages and disadvantages. It can be fun to get to spend your workdays with people you already know and love, and it can really help with getting through boring days or difficult shifts. However, work strains many relationships, especially between coworkers. Having your friends as coworkers can result in a lot of awkward situations that will definitely not benefit your friendship.

Take the pair in the story below as an example. Since they are friends, one of them felt like she could reach out to the other and ask her to cover for one of her shifts. But when the other friend said she's busy and cannot cover the shift, things got awkward.

The first friend told the boss that the second friend agreed to cover her shift anyway, even though it was obviously a lie. So when eventually nobody arrived at work for that shift, the now mad boss started looking for answers between the two friends. At the end, one of them got fired, and their friendship will probably never be the same.

    Round-Spite5666 NTA. Your "friend" is not a friend. She lied and used you. If anything she threw you - and your workplace under the bus. You had every right to say no - you had plans and you SHOULD tell your boss the truth. She might have some nice qualities, but I were you, I would not consider her a friend anymore.
