So I took my German Shepherd to the dog park like I do every morning and when I got there, I thought there was an opossum or something as it was still dark (5am). When I got closer, I
  • 02
heard crying and saw it was a little dog, maybe a miniature poodle I think. Well the little lady was happy to see me and she kept following me around the park! I didn't know what to do as the humane society and vet are still

closed and I've never had to deal with this before, so I took her home. She is currently sleeping on my lap and I wish I could keep her, but we already have two doggos. She's just the sweetest girl. Anyone ever deal
  • 05
with something like this before? She has a collar but no tag, and I highly doubt someone "forgot" their dog at the park over night. Edit: I took her to the vet. She has no microchip. She is
  • 06
pretty healthy overall, with the exception of a lot of mammary ts:( which is probably why she was dumped. The vet guesses she's around 8. I've called the non emergency police and checked

the websites for lost dogs but no one is looking for her as I expected. She won't let me out of her sight and I'm too afraid to bring her to the humane society because she's terrified of being left alone again. I'm going to keep her.
  • 09
I'll keep checking the sites, and like I said the police have my number and description but I think I just gained a new family member. How could someone be so heartless?
  • 10
Edit 2: Thank you everyone for the extremely kind words. I was not out for those when I made this post, but I really appreciate the very nice things you've said. I forgot to mention in the original post that
  • 11
she was found in a double gated, fenced in dog park. I don't think there's any possible way she could have gotten in there on her own (in case she was lost, etc). With that said, I think it's possible someone stole her

and then dumped her after seeing her tumors, so I am actively looking for her owner. If not, then my wife and I are really happy to have her in the family. In any case, I gave her a bath last night and she slept next to me and my

other dogs all night so she's very happy now. I'll post a picture of her later! Edit 3: First off, thank you for the gold! It's my first one and didn't expect it to come from this post which
  • 15
was mostly a rant at first. Secondly, again thank you to everyone for the nice words. I just think it's the right thing to do and didn't expect so many people to be so happy about it.

After doing everything we could to make sure she wasn't lost (no microchip, checked all online resources, humane society, non emergency police, rescues, going back to the park

numerous times, etc.), it was determined she was dumped. As you may recall, she had many mammary tus and this was most likely why she was left. In any case, my wife and I decided to give her

a forever home and keep her! Recently, she had all of her t's removed, spayed, dental extractions on some bad teeth and all of her vaccinations

done. As you probably know, these are ridiculously expensive surgeries. One of our local rescues was so great through this process. They helped substantially offset

the cost of this. Without her and the vet who did the surgery, I am not sure this could have been possible. Our new lady was not extremely thrilled about this as you could imagine, but it was in her best interest.
  • 23
She has been an absolute joy for our family and really gets on well with our German Shepherd and our Shih-Tzu. Recently, she has become obsessed with playing fetch with our Shepherd and it often results in hilarious moments
  • 24
such as her trying to run away with one of his chuck-it balls which are too large for her. We can't imagine our house now without her. I'm even allowed to bring her to my office, and shes a real morale booster for our employees.

Even the mailman cant get enough of her. Anyway, I wanted to make this post because we are about to start a new year and there are a lot of people thinking about what their resolutions are

going to be. I offer this; do something that can change the lives of some of these poor animals who have been mistreated, left behind or worse. I'm not saying you have to adopt every dog at your local rescue,
  • 28
but maybe give a donation to them, whether its your time, food, toys or money. I hope everyone has a wonderful and safe New Years Eve, and a great 2020.
