  • "I'm shocked. I got the best job of my life, and in the end, I was fired after 3 weeks because of the background check."

  • My head is spinning. I seriously can't understand what just happened. I have no idea why I would fail a background check.
  • I have no criminal record, my CV is 100% accurate, and all my previous employers confirmed my employment dates, so everything is fine.
  • And they refused to give me any clear reason. This job was very important because I had just been fired from my previous job and had been unemployed for 4 months.
  • All my savings were gone, and my mental health deteriorated badly - I was diagnosed with severe anxiety.
  • I finally found my dream job, for real. The salary was the best I've ever had, I even managed to get them to increase the signing bonus, and I got along great with the whole team during the interviews.
  • To celebrate, I took 3-week vacation and traveled before starting. The first 15 days at the job were amazing
  • I told everyone in my life the good news. And having recently gotten out of a 5-year relationship, I felt like this was truly a new chapter in my life.
  • And just like that, security walked me out today. My new manager seemed just as shocked as I was, but he told me that HR's decision was final and non- negotiable.
  • I'm completely lost. Now I'm drowning in debt because I spent money on moving expenses and new work clothes on my credit card, assuming I'd cover it all with the new salary.
  • My life has been turned upside down... Again. I really don't understand. What am I supposed to do now?
  • The last period of unemployment turned me into a zombie, and I feel like I'm going back to that same state again.
  • This is devastating. Edit: I requested a copy of the background check and the reason for termination, and if they don't give me the copy, I will hire a labor lawyer.

  • I'm just at a standstill right now, not sure if I should apply for another job or if the background check will again be the reason for my rejection.
  • There's nothing in my hands at the moment other than updating my resume and continuing to apply.
  • During this period, I will see what I can achieve with the lawyer and watch more YouTube videos about interviews and understanding how the screening system works.
  • If anyone has been through the same experience, could you tell me what you did or how you handled it?
  • Bebinn Ask for a copy of the background check. Also check your credit reports, might be something there. Is there a case search thing in your area? I can look up court filings in my state by name. I'd look into that, might be something fraudulent on that.
  • bagofwisdom I would contact an attorney.
  • Just Plain Beth_1968 HR can make mistakes. They can be held responsible for bad decisions. If they hastily terminated you without verifying the information they received was accurate from a third-party, depending on what state you're in, get a lawyer. So sorry you're going through this! That is such utter bullshit. I used to do hiring for a large transportation company and I would go over line by line what was in the criminal if someone was disputing our investigations. I had one gentleman with
  • Decaf MadeMeDolt If the background check excluded you, the background check company is required to send you a PRE-adverse action notice so that you have a chance to dispute any inaccuracies. And then they send you an adverse action notice only after you've had a reasonable chance to dispute. FCRA covers this. There are a lot of missing steps here with HR and you're best to contact an employment lawyer immediately.
  • MnstrShne Is it possible that they are lying about it being the background check, and they simply found something they didn't like on your social media?
  • Normal_student_5745 wait,,,this sounds soooo sus...company wont just make decisions on the result of background check by themself... They will reach out to you if something is wrong.. I work in one of top cybersecurity company in the world. they did even double check with me if they had some suspicion or they couldn't contact with my previous employee and so on... I would check the contract, you signed and see what they say about background process. and also, request HR to give u reason why they
