"Neighbor Snooped in my Car in middle of Day"

Hi, I've lived next door to the same people for 15 years. We've always talked, always helped each other, never had any issues whatsoever.
  • 03
Not a single problem. I was home for lunch recently and realized I had time for a quick nap.
  • 04
I set my alarm for 20 min and hit the couch. I woke up startled as the alarm went off, immediately sprang up and looked out my front window to see my neighbor walking his dog.
  • 05
As he walked by my house he started to stare and slow down. He got by my mailbox and there's a line of trees so I couldn't see him.
  • 06
Our driveway is about 50 yards long. I thought the dog was doing his business and he will continue down the road.
  • 07
I'm putting my boots on trying to hurry and look back and he's walking down my driveway with the dog.
  • 08
He approaches the house and I lose him from view so I go upstairs to another window that looks down on the driveway.
  • 09
I don't see him. We have 5 cars. 2 were at home. My work truck and one of the kids's cars.
  • 10
The truck is parked halfway around my house obviously looking like I ran home at lunch and jumped out leaving it kind of turned toward the back of my house.
  • 11
I couldn't see the truck from the window. Im still upstairs and the windows are open.
  • 12
I figure he was looking for me or was gonna cut through to his yard for whatever reason.
  • 13
We have a gap in the trees and the dog often escapes and runs right through going back to the other neighbors house about 150 yards behinds us.
  • 14
They often chase him through the gap while apologizing. Just then I hear my truck door shut.
  • 15
And here he comes walking back down the driveway with the dog and a poop bag.

  • 17
He went back to the street and went home. By now I'm late so I had to take a leak and head out.
  • 18
thought maybe he'd gotten my mail but there's none in truck and I didn't notice him with it when he came down the driveway.
  • 19
Nothing was missing. I went straight paranoid and as soon as I got back to the job site I searched my truck looking for anything amiss, missing, gps tracker etc.
  • 20
nothing. It has me suddenly wondering what is up! Again, they're empty nesters, grandparents, dog parents.
  • 21
Very nice people. Always smiling and waving. Always wanting to give us stuff from their garden or anything they decide they don't want or need.
  • 22
They always ask us. Always ask me if I need any help when I'm cutting trees or fighting with a tractor etc.
  • 23
Now I'm paranoid as heck wondering if I need cameras out? Any ideas?
  • 24
4everalOne Maybe your truck door wasn't closed all the way and the light was on?
  • 25
waowediting I would confront him but with this. "Hey, thanks for closing my truck door yesterday. I hadn't realized it was still open!" His reaction should tell you what you need to know.
  • 26
billjackson58 It's 75 yards from the street to the truck. Also, only the bed was visible from the road. I think the truck was an afterthought.
  • 27
Ok-Seat6154 Did you maybe leave your truck door open? My down the street neighbor knocked at my door and told me my door was open and had been for quite a while. I went out and sure enough the door was wide open. No idea how I did that.
  • 28
billjackson58 I thought about that but no. It had been rainy that day.
  • 29
Competitive-Catch776 You yourself said you rushed, perhaps it wasn't shut all the way? Maybe he thought it looked weird and wanted to make sure you weren't in need of help or someone else had taken something. Either way, just get some cameras. If they have been good to you in the past, it's best to just be aware but, not say anything. You have to cohabit in the same neighborhood and he didn't take anything so..just be cautious and get some cameras.
  • 30
What exactly would you even accuse him of since he took nothing anyways? He may just be looking out for you and a good neighbor is an asset.
  • 31
billjackson58 It's an old GMC 4x4 parked on a slight angle. The door wouldn't stay open for any reason lol. Barely stays open while driving!
  • 32
JohnGault67 Probably a very simple explanation: He noticed your door wide open on your vehicle, thought it was odd... then thought maybe you were dead inside of it, wanted to see if you were ok. Found the truck empty and figured that you accidently left the door open, so he shut it.
  • 33
billjackson58 That's what I'd like to think but the door was shut and the way he looked between walking in front of the house and turning up the driveway. His expression changed to almost like a "wtf is b "kinda look.
