'CDS sent us a broken kitty': Family dog alerts his owners to an injured kitten he found in the backyard, they cancel their Christmas trip to take care of their new itty bitty holiday meowracle

It's finally cold outside. Cold and festive. This is one of our favorite periods of the year for the obvious reasons and for the less obvious ones. Like the fact that this is the best time of year to cuddle under blankets with our cats. We're cold, they're cold, and the two best sources of heat in the house are the blankets and the humans, so we become their favorite napping spots. Of course, as fun as it may be to be inside when it's cold, this is also an important time to keep an eye and an ear out, because outside, there are no blankets for lost kittens to hide under.

And the kitten in this story… considering the cold and the injuries that she had, would not have survived the winter out there alone. Heck, we're not sure she would have survived for a couple more days. But she lucked out. The kitten was found by a dog, and this dog, confused and excited, alerted his pawrents, and they gave her the second chance that she deserved.

    Found this little lady in our yard almost 3 weeks ago after our dog alerted us to her presence. She was so cold and under weight. I brought her in and noticed she wasnt walking right. Got her to a vet and come to find out her femur was broken in 2 places. All the rescues were full and couldn't help.

    But then a local vet cut the cost of the surgery by 70 percent and we got her fixed up with pins! She just now is independent and old enough I don't need to hold her constantly. Her name is Lilly and she is a fiesty fighter. The last picture is Luna, Lilly's new older sister. She showed up via CDS Christmas time in 2019.

    edited to add; The purple sock and orange slice doughnut is to prevent her from licking her stitches/staples. She is too small for a cone and these solutions were given by my vet. These are not costumes, except for the Santa hat.

  • Instinctively, we want to say that no kitten is a broken kitten, but this time, we think it was meant literally. Poor thing. There is no way of knowing how long she would have survived like that - alone and with broken bones - out there. We can very safely say that you have saved her life.

    Hali-Gani I just got my Christmas gift early. How did you know that helping this kitten - when you don't have to - would be the first thing on my gift list?   • We have to say this too: this family… should be an inspiration to everyone. Not only did they cancel their Christmas trip to take care of this cutie, they also raised their dog well enough that it knew this kitten was in need of help. Didn't play with her, didn't hurt her, just alerted his parents that something was amiss.

    OP TheCurious Cur Oh he is the best! She licked her sutures open because the cone was too big and we had to take her in for staples and he refused to charge us fornthe visit becuase he said he liked her so much! Said she had spunk!
