Woman gets even with disgruntled neighbor after parking dispute by attracting 10+ crows to destroy his lawn: 'I spread oats on his lawn and got the neighborhood crows to exact my revenge for me'

  • An older man with a white beard frowns.
  • I (28F) recently moved, and now that I don't have to deal with this scary neighbour I had, I'm ready to share this story.
  • Context: I was renting a basement suite in a family home for 2.5 years up until last month. My landlords and neighbours were all stereotypical Canadians,
  • the friendliest people you've ever met, except for the house next door. Our driveway fit 2 cars and there were 2 spots in front of the house to park on the street as well. HE HAS A GARAGE, A DOUBLE-CAR SECOND GARAGE OUT BACK, A DRIVEWAY THAT CAN FIT 2 CARS AND A PARKING PAD ON HIS LAWN. He did not
  • need the street spot. My contract stipulated I must park on the street, which is public parking in my area. Every adult in the house had a car, so 4 cars in total.
  • Additionally, my street was where 2 cities meet: the north side is one city and the south is another. We have a lot of crows in our area that dig up peoples lawns and absolutely destroy them. Anyways, now to the story.
  • Our street has a family that has regular get togethers, which results in the street being full of cars on Sundays. One time I parked infront of the scary neighbours house because the spot infront of mine was taken
  • (and it was allowed to be, since it's public parking). This also happened many other times, when my landlord had their cars on the street because he was playing hockey with his sons in the driveway. When I park infront of this neighbour's house, this sets off something inside him.
  • First, he (30s maybe 40) would come and yell at my landlord until he came and asked me to move my car. Then he started confronting me by running outside and telling me to move. I
  • never had a sick comeback in the moment or clever way of telling him that it's public parking, so I would just say nothing. (My therapist told me it was rude not to respond but my mom always said if you have nothing nice to say then say nothing at all). My
  • landlord and I would laugh about how unreasonable this guy was but I always moved my car because he's a crazy-eyes man and I'm a 5'2 female. Plus I feel bad that this guy harassed my landlords upstairs. The problem
  • got worse when I met my boyfriend, who would drive to my house sometimes park in front of his house.
  • After the first confrontation, i was petty and parked in front of his house just to spite him. But I slowly started to worry about this man's mental health since he was always standing in the window
  • watching around the time id get home from work, and began to park further down the street when the spot infront of my rental was blocked. My other neighbours knew about that guys issues and told me I could park infront of their houses any time. I
  • would always tell my bf and guests to never park in front of his house because I don't like conflict when it is happening to me. but sometimes there were simply no spots left and I had to park infront of his house. one
  • time my boyfriend parked there and the neighbour decided he would try to get him towed. My bf went outside to move his car because the 4 hour parking limit was close to up, only to see a bylaw officer documenting his car. He asked what the actual law was for our city, and was told that he's allowed to park there for 48
  • hours, not the 4 that we had thought. The 4 hours is for the other city on the other side of the street. Bf told the officer that he had only been there a couple hours and the guy sighed and said he knew, he had explained this to the neighbour on the phone. He insisted bylaw to come document it and come back in 48 hours. He also mentioned that
  • this guy had called them a lot (I'm guessing about my car). He left and my bf moved his car when he went home the next day. No ticket.
  • Two black birds stand on top of a lush green field.
  • My boyfriend got a bit petty after this and would purposely park in front of the house whenever he could. This resulted in my neighbour confronting him aggressively and a yelling match.
  • I was worried about my rental because this was causing some drama with my landlord, who was a gem of a human, so I begged my boyfriend to stop. I told him that we don't know what this guy is capable of and that he has such big reactions out of small things then it's better we distance ourselves and not provoke him. I didn't want to be
  • responsible for this guy having a mental breakdown as he has a wife and infant (somehow). It wasn't worth it, because we don't know what this guy will resort to.
  • He let it go but the neighbour didn't-- he would stare out his window at us whenever we walked by the house. (V creepy but also hilarious that this parking spot was his whole life).
  • He actually went and bought a car and parked it dead in the middle so no one could park infront of his house again (this is the funniest thing to me). The car is rarely used, so we laugh at the idea of him buying a Hyundai because of us.
  • One day I saw a northern flicker on his lawn and I had a terrible, wonderful idea. When it was dark, I threw a handful of oats on the guys lawn. The next morning,
  • I came out to see 10ish crows and some flickers doing gods work to this man's lawn. It looked like my dad had brought his tractor and tilled it. No patch of grass was intact, everything was turned upside down. I let out an audible "good boys" lol and called my bf
  • to tell him the news. We both laughed so hard. I have not felt this satisfied with karma in a long, long time.
  • TL:DR my neighbour kept yelling at me, my boyfriend and my landlord when we (very legally) parked near his house because there was nowhere else to,
  • calling bylaw even though we had done nothing wrong. so I spread oats on his lawn and got the neighbourhood crows to exact my revenge for me. They did their best work and destroyed his lawn.
