I'll keep it simple. Am I overreacting for distancing myself from a friend who loathes cats.

I've only been friends with this individual for a year now. A few months ago my family and I decided to get a kitten.

When I told my friend he was adamant that I don't. Even though I told him we had already adopted her, he was still insisting that we don't.

He continued to say terrible things about cats. I stopped talking to him for a week.

We reconnected but it wasn't the same. It made me question what kind of person hates all cats this passionately.

I felt like I couldn't talk about this amazing little kitten that has been an amazing fit to our home and family.

A couple of weeks ago we got a second kitten and again I just didn't feel like talking to my friend because I didn't feel like I had to ignore the excitement in our home.

Am I wrong for distancing myself from this friend?

NOR. cat-pernicus I do think it's really weird how passionate your friend is about getting a cat, it's none of his business and I don't think you're overreacting

Old_Professor_6473 Right?! its really weird. like... were they brutally attacked by kittens as a baby or something?
  • 13
Internal-Paint-9688 I don't trust people that automatically hate all cats and neither should you.

MultiMillionMiler Top 1% Commenter Same, how do people hate an adorable little furry animal snuggling against them and purring? I just spent $36 today going to a local "cat cafe" for a couple hours, I need it for my mental health. Cats are like a dose of endorphins, really weird to be averted to them.

Internal-Paint-9688 Love that for you!! Cats are the best. I'm so confused by OP's friend, I need to know why he's so traumatized by kittens.

MultiMillionMiler Top 1% Commenter Even a gang of 10 kittens coming after me would still be too cute to be mad at them. I've literally squatted/kneeled on the ground like a total weirdo in public to interact with random cats sitting outside of stores or whatever/seeing if they'd face- rub me lol. I want a pile of kittens right now.

Internal-Paint-9688 Same!! Being that weirdo on the ground is how I rescued my most recent kitten!! Went from living on the streets to demanding cuddles 24/7 and he loves blankies.

MultiMillionMiler ⚫ 5d ago Adorable! You're a good person for taking him in. The ones I'm talking about weren't stray they belonged to the convenience stores nearby

Internal-Paint-9688 Yea I guess if you took those you would be technically catnapping...

grimPontif NOR I personally think it's super weird when people vehemently hate cats. I have 4 cats now and I grew up having cats. Everyone I've ever known who hates cats has turned out to be a horrible person. I think cats are very intuitive and will give to a good read on a person and their intentions, imo you're right to not want to be around that guy.
