Trespassing man "gifts" neighbor a fully mowed lawn without their knowledge, destroying homeowner's carefully cultivated ecosystem: 'Stay off our property'

Sometimes a "gift" is really a way to control your life. 

This time of year, we're hearing all about the gifts we give each other. The vast majority of them are benign. Maybe your uncle gives you a sweater that is itchier than sandpaper and uglier than sin, but you don't complain because this is part of life. But what about gifts that have a little more emotional weight to them? You can call anything a "gift" as long as you give it to someone, but that doesn't always mean it's appreciated. Certain gifts are actually backhanded compliments, or worse. Think about that time you got a breath-freshening kit from your mom, and you didn't even know you had bad breath. Or when you gifted your roommate a new vacuum as a subtle hint to get them to tidy up more. These are not good gifts. These are passive-aggressive jabs wrapped up in a bow. But this category of gift is even worse. This gift was not only a violation of privacy, but it also ended up destroying someone's property. 

These are the types of gifts you should avoid at all costs. I'm of the camp that any big, potentially life-altering gifts need to be cleared either by the recipient themselves or someone close to them. Don't give a puppy without asking first. Don't give a gym membership unless you're sure that someone wants it. And don't mow someone's lawn if you're not totally sure that that's what they want.
