Ah you know, once you make the mistake of bowing to their feline demands, it is over. You are cooked. You shall no longer have any personal possessions. From now on they belong to the cat and you are using them at the cat’s pleasure. And any space that the cat should choose to call their own shall become so and you will leave the cat alone for fear of being evicted from your own home, because while you slept your cat crossed out your signature on the rental agreement and added their own.

This is one of the great upsides of having a cat as your roommate. They really do try to keep to their own space. They will likely try to avoid putting their food on your shelf in the fridge, they won't have noisy guests over, and most of the time you simply will not see them. And sure, from time to time they might head outside to bring home some vermin, but how is that any different than living with an avid hunter?
