Two travellers miss train to save neglected puppy caked in filth, using their last supplies to clean it and find furever home with generous gas station employee: ‘I hope no one ever hurts or starves you ever again’

The kindness of strangers can be quite the overwhelming thing. Largely due to the fact that experiencing kindness from people you know can be a big ask at times, such that someone you do not know helping you out is rather overwhelming. But in a society where we often base our decisions on what we are owed or owe someone. Which is what makes this rescue, clean up and search for a family all the more heartwarming. For the travellers in this story were already on the move, living light with only that which they could carry, there was no obligation to stop and give up on their mode of transport and their supplies for a puppy who had nothing to do with them.

But being the compassionate kind of people they could not help themselves. They could not leave a lost soul behind and had to make sure that this puppy was at least given a chance at a decent life. And that is all that you can really hope for in this list, to be given a chance, to be offered an opportunity. And the person who is kind enough to take that risk and initiative to do so on your behalf, well they are truly kind.

Honestly, we are in tears right now. How generous, how kind do you have to be to use the last of your already limited supplies to help a creature who has no connection to you, in a place that you are not from. At that, in a place you are about to leave. It is not like this person would have to see this poor dog every day on their way to work, they were literally about to disappear from that town for good. Thank goodness for the kindness of good souls out there.

And there it is folks the key to compassion, understanding. When you understand what it is like to be in someone else’s position, or at least take the time to try to, you can become compassionate towards their situation. And these travellers simply could not do what had been done to them to such a helpless creature. At least in their life stories they were able to get back on their feet themselves. But if you are a puppy tied to a fence, you really have not got all too many options to hand.
