IT project manager sabotages business after boss refuses to pay for car repairs they caused: 'They won't provide me with a car!'

This IT guy was not going to let his company get away with refusing to pay for repairs for damage to his car that they effectively caused.

Before we get into the consequences, let's take a step back to provide some much-needed context here. This was a company in which IT project managers were required to make routine visits to their department's clients, who were mostly public companies and gubernatorial entities. Despite the fact that we are in the year 2026, for whatever reason, these clients never allowed for these check-ins to be virtual, so project managers had to drive to these in-person meetings all the time. 

The time it took to make these trips ended up amounting to practically half the work week. Now, from a contemporary perspective, one has to wonder why that fact alone was not enough to convince clients to switch to virtual meetings for the purposes of productivity and efficiency, but I digress…

When this project manager began working for this company, it was his first professional opportunity, so he did not necessarily know any better when it came to advocating for himself in the workplace. So when he was pressured into using his own car for these work trips without even paying for gas, he acquiesced. The employee ended up making these trips with his own vehicle for 10 years before it became an issue.

The straw that broke the camel's back happened when his car suddenly broke down one day. After calculating that he had driven over 140 km for work purposes alone, the IT project manager advocated for his company to pitch in to pay for repairs. They refused, and that's when the real trouble started.
