Promising job candidate gets a lowball offer, rejects it and leaves arrogant hiring manager aghast in front of his boss: ‘Never sell yourself short’

Arrogance gets you nowhere, and this hiring manager learned this the hard way after lowballing a desirable job candidate and getting rejected.

It's not news that a businessman approached a situation with arrogance. That's a long told tale portrayed in many stories, real life and in movies. You would think people would learn, but nope. This businessman let his arrogance lead the way and it lead him straight to shame town USA. The interview he conducted was strange from the start.

His arrogance was evident from the start. The salary was never mentioned throughout the entire interview process. When it was finally mentioned by the egotistical hiring manager, the final boss of the interview process, it was extremely low. Lower than the salary of the person actually interviewing.

Like most interviewees do, they ask for a few days to think about it, and the hiring manager reluctantly allowed it. However, after only two days he gets a call from the hiring manager with his own boss also on the call. The ego on this guy was showing, since he surely thought this guy was going to accept his lowball offer.

Instead, the potential job candidate politely declined and left this hiring manager aghast. He could not believe it! After throwing a hissy fit for several minutes, he finally asked why and if he were the problem. But this interviewee owed this guy nothing, so he just stuck with the salary being too low and moved on, vindicated.

We can all learn something from this situation here. First and foremost, never sell yourself short! If you feel like you are being lowballed, then you probably are. Do not blindly accept a job offer just because you're mistaking a hiring manager's ego with confidence. You are a hard worker and deserve better treatment.
Secondly, if the interview process is already making you feel uneasy, just imagine how the entire job is going to make you feel. That should already have your internal alarms going off telling you to not accept the job. Even if they offer you the amount you are looking for, if you felt weird during the interview, it's probably for good reason. That job description is probably missing many aspects of your job description.
Just stay wary and confident. A job interview goes both ways!
