Did you really think the only howling hilarious doggos around are just dogs?

Well, that's wrong. Nature is full of vibrant and magnificent critters, but only a handful of them bare resemblemce to our beloved doggo friendos. And being a canine cousin to dogs is such a blessing on this Earth - it means, effectively, that there are more dogs in the world! And more dogs are never a bad idea. Dogs are the most woofing wholesome creatures that ever existed. And they come with a whole family tree.

Wolves are the immediate candidates - our dogs used to be them at some point, about 15,000-ish years ago. Since then, wolves didn't change much, but we got the wacky tail-waggers of the bunch, like the preciously plump Corgi. Then we have foxes, the orange boys of the bunch, but they don't share the single brain cell with orange cats - they have one of their own. Also, research shows that foxes start exhibiting domestication tendencies, so… more doggos soon? Despite the name, the aardwolf is not here to howl at the moon or steal your sheep - it’s actually the most socially awkward cousin in the hyena family. Native to eastern and southern Africa, this shy, striped little weirdo looks like a tiny hyena cosplaying as a wolf, but lives a very different life. Instead of crunching bones like its tougher relatives, the aardwolf survives almost entirely on termites, slurping up tens of thousands of them in a single night with its long, sticky tongue. It has weaker jaws and smaller teeth than other hyenas because, frankly, it does not need the drama. Aardwolves are mostly nocturnal, prefer quiet solo foraging, and mark their territories with scent glands like polite but firm neighbors. When threatened, they raise their mane to look bigger, proving that even introverts have a “do not perceive me” mode. In short: not a wolf, barely a menace, and fully committed to a low-stress, bug-based lifestyle.
