Grandmother leaves inheritance to neglected granddaughter after parents spent $80,000 on sister's wedding: 'You had an $80,000 wedding. I got $500!'

It turns out that being the only kind grandchild can have surprising rewards down the road.

This woman maintained a close relationship with her grandmother, even going so far as to take her on vacation to Hawaii so she could have one more nice trip in her older age. But why did they have such a close relationship? Well, it probably has something to do with her imbalanced and fractured relationship with her immediate family.

Much of this had to do with the author's recent wedding. She and her husband were hoping to organize a small ceremony, far cheaper than her older sister's event, which cost $80,000 and was funded by the author's parents. Instead, this would be a far more intimate evening with approximately 50 guests and an overall budget of $15,000. When the author raised the question of money to her parents, they refused to give more than $500.

Of course, not every person has the luxury of having their wedding partially funded by their parents. Still, finances aside, the lack of fair treatment was so blatant that the author could not help but feel offended by the amount her parents were willing to contribute.

So how does the grandmother fit into all of this? Well, the author wound up leaning more on her grandmother for emotional support following this major disagreement with her parents. After that trip to Hawaii, the grandmother decided to amend the terms of her will without informing anyone, including the author. You can imagine where this is going next…

Upon the grandmother's untimely demise, her lawyer read the terms of the will to the entire family, and let's just say that the author's parents and sister were taken aback by what they heard. The grandmother wound up giving the vast majority of her assets to the author and specifically mentioned in her will that the author deserved this after being mistreated by her other family members for so many years.
The sister proceeded to throw a tantrum, and the parents tried to apply pressure on the author to give up some of that money. Well, considering the fact that the mom and dad were unwilling to give up more than $500 of their own finances, the author had no obligation to give them any more…
