We all find ourselves fighting our curiosity over things that are none of our business. While we're not as curious as cats, it's in our human nature to be interested in other people, even if it's not really our place. When a neighbor has a package delivered to their front door, and the package ends up sitting there until they return home, we admit that our curiosity is piqued. What did they order that can fit into such a tiny package, and what is in the huge one that barely made it out of the delivery truck?

Sure, we get curious all the time over those things, but the one thing we don't do is indulge in this curiosity. We can guess and theorise all we want about someone else's business, but we should never cross the line that invades their privacy, so we can actually find out.

It is unclear whether or not the neighbor in the story below was indulging his curiosity, or was truly being helpful and made a mistake in the process; we only hope he won't get the chance to do it again. It all started when a resident in an apartment building had a package delivered to the lobby, but he was not there to pick it up. This led one neighbor to decide to be helpful and take the package home and bring it over to the resident once he returned home.

The first time it happened, the resident was grateful, appreciating the fact that his neighbor was preventing the package from being stolen. However,  it wasn't long before the same thing happened again, but this time, when the neighbor brought the package over, it completely opened. This led the resident to demand that the neighbor stop picking up his packages, telling him that while the sentiment is appreciated, he wishes to keep his privacy when it comes to what's inside the packages. In response, the neighbor claimed he opened the package by accident, and insisted that leaving the deliveries in the lobby would only result in the packages being stolen.

  • lawfox32 I don't think you're TA but he may not be either. Did you ask him about it? I've taken in a package for me and one for my neighbor at the same time before, and once I accidentally opened theirs thinking it was mine. It's also possible the opening/re-taping happened at some point in the delivery process. But it's fine if you aren't comfortable having him take in your packages anymore. I would, also, check the pill count on the medication.

Im not calling him a thief i just dont want my packages being taken to someone else's unit anymore. If he wants to help Id rather he text me and leave it in the lobby, I did check the med after and seal was intact and count correct

  • Tikithing If I picked up a package for someone and it was already opened/clearly reclosed, I wouldn't just hand it to them with no explanation. I'd definitely at least say, btw, that was like that when I got it. If they don't believe me, then theres not much I can do, but I would certainly feel the need to say it. You'd notice it was reclosed or whatever, even if it wasn't your package I feel, because if your own one arrived like that, you'd also question it.

  • yennffr I'm just completely baffled at the delivery system where packages get left unattended. Here the delivery driver hands it to you personally or the package gets taken to the post office or some different business that offer a pick up service. Can't you get stuff delivered to your work instead if they mostly come while you're there anyway?
