'My wife is making me throw away my college t-shirts because they "spark no joy" while ignoring her hoard in the garage'

I am currently in the middle of a "Spring Cleaning" in January because my wife has been binge- watching organizing videos on TikTok. I am generally a tidy person, but she has decided that anything we haven't used in six months needs to go.

She is currently forcing me to donate a box of my old band t- shirts and hoodies because they are "visual clutter." I tried to argue that they have sentimental value, but she said if I don't wear them, they are just taking up space.

The hypocrisy is driving me insane. While she was lecturing me about my shirts, I walked into the garage to get a trash bag. Her side of the garage is a disaster zone of abandoned hobbies.

There is a dusty spin bike used as a clothes rack. There are three boxes of expired essential oils. There is literally a crumpled-up Adult Batman costume she bought on Alibaba four years ago for a Halloween party we didn't even go to, still sitting in the shipping bag.

But apparently, that doesn't count as clutter because she "might use it eventually", quietly forgetting her mantra that "not using them at the moment equals taking up space". My vintage concert tees, however, are a crime against minimalism.

jibbergirl26 Just say no, put your belongings that you want to keep in one plastic container and tell her hands off. Don't even worry about her junk.

UGOT SYO You start wearing those vintage band tees right meow, Mister. Tell her no. Refuse. Deny. Do you have any idea how much those could be worth? Maybe put it into financial terms, maybe she'll understand it that way.

Earthbound Moss Having a partner obsessed with TikTok would drive me fucking nuts

Kbern4444 Make her a deal. She gets to pick one item of yours she thinks needs to go. You get to pick one item of hers that needs to go. And keep at it.

It's only fair and that is what marriage is about, equality, cooperation and love. Watch how quickly she gives up.
