Whether you're single, married, dating, or just out of a breakup, Valentine's Day is coming around the corner whether you like it or not. When you think about it, it's really a gushy, Hallmark holiday that you don't have to participate in. And in another way, it's a beautiful holiday about love, which isn't specific or restricting to romantic love. Love is between friends, pets, and parents. Valentine's Day is predicated partly on ancient Roman tradition. The festival of Lupercalia celebrated fertility, spring, and the pairing of couples. Young men and women were paired in symbolic lotteries, sort of like matchmaking. Fate determined the union of two souls, and over time, these customs were engulfed with other traditions. Saint Valentine was a priest in Rome who would commit blasphemy by marrying couples in secret, and that's how his name got connected to the holiday's nomenclature. The story feels like folklore. 

In the Middle Ages, Valentine's Day become solely romantic and intertwined with courtly love. Knights and noble ladies exchanged tokens, poetry, and gifts, which started the notion to gift presents and other things for the holiday. Everyone knows the imagery associated with Valentine's Day. Doves, roses, hearts, chocolates, flowers, all have the essence of romance. Doves symbolize fidelity and gentle love, roses symbolic beauty with pain. 

Cutesy critters are a perfect addition to Valentine's Day romance, with their wholesome and adorable noses, cheeks, and whiskers. Cute animals are inherently designed to be used for couples to express their love and relationship, so why not use it in a list of hilarious memes?
