23 If I Fits I Sits Cats Blurring the Lines between Solids and Liquids

It might have seemed obvious that cats would be considered solids in the world of matter, but after viewing this collection of cats sitting in and spilling out of small containers, you too shall begin to question whether they are actually liquids.

It is the most basic of physics that we were taught in school, matter takes on three states. Solid, liquid and gas. Now we know that cats are not gas because they can sit on our chests while we sleep and almost choke us out. But what is becoming more and more obvious is that we do not know for certain that cats are solids, and while they might not be pure liquid, there is a strong argument for them being a liquid-solid hybrid.

At least that is the impression that we got while putting together this collection of If I Fits I Sits pics. And it is something that you can see our cute cat companions doing in all sort of situations. Whether it is slipping away from our grasp, squeezing through impossibly small gaps, or as in these photos, sitting in tiny containers.

This is one of the more subtle examples that have us questioning whether cats are indeed liquids or solids. For while you might initially be all for team solids, you have to remember that this cat has found a way, much like a liquid, to fully fill the space that it was put in. If we were put in such a space it would be fair to say that we would not be able to gracefully fill in all the cracks and crevices our body would form, unlike this cat who has managed to make themselves smooth as sun lotion, which is a liquid…

Yet another reason that we find ourselves questioning whether cats are actually made of liquids is their ability to spill over the objects they stuff themselves into. Unlike a solid that would simply jut out at awkward and unreasonable angles if stuffed into something that is too small for it, these cats are capable of letting their fat, fur and extremities simply spill over the edge of any container they stuff themselves into. Something which is most certainly a characteristic of liquids. Not to mention how the cat underneath must be rather compressed and yet not broken, another property of liquids…
