"My neighbor called the police because my cats walk too loud. I wish I was joking"

'I don't throw parties, I don't play loud music, [...] just normal living noise and my cats walking around.'

My downstairs neighbor called the police because my cats walking on the floor are "too loud". I don't throw parties, I don't play loud music, I don't stomp, just normal living noise and my cats walking around. Is this even a valid noise complaint? What should I do if he keeps calling the police?

Your neighbor will shortly become known as a nuisance caller. In some places, there are penalties for ab ing the police this way and wasting their time. Talk to a tenants' rights organization or a tenants' rights lawyer about vexatious reporting, har sment etc.

They have names for this and they have penalties for it, too. Just depends on where you are.

Tipitina62 In all fairness, I had a cat who, when he ran, could sound like a herd of large somethings.

PineappleCharacter15 Did they explicitly mention cats?? Because I can't understand that. How the fuck do they even know you have cats??

Dame_Niafer What did the police do when they showed up? Did they take this seriously at all?

JCB tBuddy You notice how when some people have it good they want more? Sounds like you have them spoiled, you need to live your life, make normal life noises, then they won't even worry about your cat.

Different-Poet-4138 Do nothing. The police aren't/cant do anything either. Chalk it up to a busybody neighbor and let it go.

Express-Stop7830 When I visit my parents and take my car to visit her grandpurrents, my dad will make snide remarks about me making too much noise at night. (My room is above theirs and it is all wood flooring.)
