Personally, we think that baby otters are something that people don't appreciate nearly enough. When you think about your list of “cutest animals”, we doubt that they make the cut. But they should. They are like puppies. Who like water. And squeak. Seriously, if you have never heard the noises that otters make - and specifically baby otters - you have to do a favor to yourself and go look it up. Because whatever you're expecting, it is not going to be that. Otters have to be up there as one of the most precious baby animals out there.

One unexpected baby animal that did get some love last year was, of course, the pygmy hippopotamus. Moo Deng snuck her way into people's hearts without them ever expecting it. She was too silly, too cute, too easy to meme, and people could not help themselves. We obviously think that her fame was very much justified, and we look forward to every single update that there is about her. But it does make us wonder… if hippos can find their fame on the internet so unexpectedly, we wonder which animal is going to get that kind of love from the people this year.
