Rescuers said that they found a tupperware with a few drops of water left in it, empty containers, fast food wrappers, and piles of blankets that allowed Otto to survive for so long. However, these very blankets and food were probably the reason why no one found him. Eating and drinking just enough to survive, while burying himself deep underneath the blankets to stay warm, Otto escaped everyone's view until the last possible moment. Had he been without food and water, or even blankets, he would have started howling for help much sooner.

There's no way around avoiding blame here. The people who took the pawrent's care obviously didn't look to see if Otto was in there very carefully. We know that Dachshunds are small, but it should be pretty obvious to see that a dog is living in a car. This is truly an oversight of the towing and impound company, and we hope they have the morals to come forward and help Otto on his recovery.

Nobody talks about this aspect of what's going on with all of these detainees. People are getting ripped from their homes, workplaces, and even off the streets, with no chance to take care of the ones that are left behind. Otto's story is just one of many stories of animals that are left to survive after their owners disappear.
