Friend dinners at the restaurant are always a little stressful when the bill comes. With so many unspoken courtesies and secret rules about payment, it's no wonder so many people try to keep things simple and just split the bill evenly down the middle. However, as someone who was always raised to order frugally, drink water, and stick to a single main course without dessert, sitting down with a group of cocktail-orderers and appetizer splurgers makes you realize how much ordering style can affect the bottom-line price of the entire meal.
And let me tell ya, it's always the frugal folks who get the short end of the stick when splitting the bill evenly, which is why this man decided to make a point by switching up his tactics.

Why fight the current when you can just go with the flow? This man was willing to make a fiscal sacrifice this one time to save himself a future of haggling to pay for his own food (and only his own food). Because she always insisted on making everyone split evenly, while simultaneously ordering drinks and apps and whatever else she fancied on the table, this guy decided to remind her what it looks like when you split the bill with someone who doesn't order the same way as you would.
It's not so fun anymore, is it?

Considering this was only a display of extremity to make a point, this man was able to convey his dismay with an even bill split. From now on, she'll probably think twice about the “simplicity” of an even split, making her more concious of her own orders at the time the waitress comes by with a smile and her little notebook.
Perhaps the new norm and the new societal pleasantry should be more centered around true equality and not just the split-down-the-middle farce that proves to be the easy way out. Own up to your order, pay for your own meal, and take home your own leftovers.

Also, using a restaurant's POS system as an excuse to split the bill evenly is no longer an option. With so many money-sharing apps, there's no excuse not keep the receipt and split everything up evenly. Time to crunch some numbers, people, and keep track of your own orders; your friendship will thank you.
