Motherhood isn't just for humans. Some animals take it just as seriously or even more! There is a reason they call it being a “mama bear” when a mother gets defensive and protective of their young ones.
Here we see a chicken providing an example for mothers everywhere. It doesn't matter that her baby isn't what she thought they would look like, she still loves and cares for them just the same. Did you ever think a chicken, a mama hen used to laying on eggs and carrying to itty bitty chicks, actually took on the role as mom for a sweet tiny puppy? Well, neither did this farmer in Texas!

However, once she discovered her hen's little secret, she found it heartwarming. Of course, she is intervening to make sure the puppy is getting everything it needs to grow up nice and healthy, but it is the hen that is the true mama for this pup. The hen sits on top of the pup to keep it warm, and the pup will crawl underneath her for her warmth, to which the hen happily complies. When the human farmer when to see what was under her, the hen started to defensively caw, as if she were about to attack. This is something most hens do when a farmer goes under them for their eggs. Some will even peck at you. In this case, the farmer is sweet and has a good relationship with her hens. So when she pulled the puppy out from under the chicken, there was no attack, but still suspicion.
However, she put the puppy back because why not? The little dog was happy, the mama hen was happy, and nothing but wholesome family time was happening. So, now this chicken is a dog mom. Congrats!

The farmer will be keeping an eye on the two, but as long as they are one little happy family, she will let them be. We love a blended family. So much love!
