The films centers around Tod, the playful fox, and Cooper, a good-natured hunting dog. They met accidently while they were babies, but they become close and inseparable. They run through fields, explore the forest, and promise each other that they will always be best friends. Everything is simple, innocent, good, but the story takes a ark turn. Cooper is raised to be a hunting dog, so he's trained to track foxes. Tod grows up knowing he's seen as pest and prey, and the two friends realize that they might be growing apart.
