  • Young female employee standing in clothing store as she quits her job.
  • I hope this manager got reported ASAP

Griffomancer Being told I couldn't have water at the till because 'it's not summer, so you shouldn't be thirsty'. Despite being on our feet all day, running backward and forward, talking for most of the shift, we were told we weren't allowed water.
  • So I quit on the spot. It was a new manager throwing his weight around, and from what I've heard since, he didn't last long.
  • This person learned an important lesson early on

lovebackwards Simply put: they had me fed up. Additionally, I'd told myself a while ago that a job is never worth my peace of mind. I was in your position once and when I finally quit it was like a weight had been lifted.
  • Since then I've had a "f this job" mentality and I've been better off. Now I love my job (I'm a banker) but I always keep this thought in the back of my mind.
  • Straystar-626 After constant single coverage, sh pay, impossible expectations, and being the one who kept getting scheduled to close alone after my coworker was robbed at g_n point because "if it happens again you can handle yourself", being told to lie to customers to get those impossible metrics
  • was my final straw. I dropped keys at a managers meeting in front of like 15 managers/keyholders. I went into that meeting 80% sure I was going to quit at the end, but that smarmy grin on the district leaders face as he
  • used professional buzzwords to berate everyone there, I just couldn't listen to anymore. I made it to my car before I cried but the relief the next day of not having to go back to that h I hole was great.
  • Se... I didn't actually quit on the spot but I was so close to it and the thing that made me do so was that my manager cursed at me Now I have been at the company for 2 years and I've taken a lot of sh, being treated like sh, talk to like sh, coming in on my days of and not even a thank you
  • but what got me so fired up is that I had gone into the cooler to check my phone for 5 seconds and the manger said "get off your phone, you know how slow she is (referring to my other slow coworker)" and I was like it's not my job to pick up her slack if it's anyone's job it's yours. And I was done.
  • santamonicayacht... I realized that I took the job more seriously than the store manager, the assistant manager, and their little group of ass kissers. SM and ASM would frequently bring their tween and younger children in to just hang out in the store while they "worked" (read: sat in the office and gossiped), took snacks and drinks and toys
  • off the shelf and damaged them out instead of paying for them (they notably did this for at least an entire case of silly string, the evidence of which was left all over the store), left seasonal items in a heap in a cart for months instead of processing them properly (scanning into the system, boxing up and putting in the back for next year)... There
  • was also this really weird S ual energy among the "clique" where the (male) associates would refer to the (female) SM and ASM as MILFs, and at one point someone even put letter stickers on the office door that spelled out "I LOVE MILFS." God this isn't even everything that happened there that p ed me off
  • Breaking point for me was when I was left alone in the store for upwards of 30 minutes because SM and ASM "had to go with a new hire to help him buy a shirt" ?????? When they came back I literally tossed my name badge on the office desk and said "bye I'm out"
  • Customers sharing a laugh in a mall.
  • SirenSashimi I had a quit on the spot moment too, and I don't regret it! It was stressful being without a backup job, but I still feel good about my decision (and also having the chance to f over my old boss by leaving him short handed lol.) Basically, my boss had been making my life miserable at

  • The last straw for me was when I was telling him I needed more staff on a certain shift (I kept being scheduled the WORST fr king shifts with minimal staff, it was almost like he wanted me to suffer lol.) and he said it was not possible yet still complained about service times during this shift. I just felt myself getting so frustrated and
  • upset throughout the day, and then finally walked into the office and said I couldn't do it anymore, and basically had a breakdown in front of him WHICH WAS SO EMBARRASSING. And he was flabbergasted, tried to tell me that I was doing amazing, not to quit. But I stood my ground,
  • But yeah. It was such a relief to leave. The stress from having no safety net was so much less than the stress at staying at a job I hated so much. It took a few weeks to get another full time job, but I was much happier. I hope that you find you'll be happier now too!! It takes some time to bounce back from burn out, but it's so fr king bada to just quit

  • That "If you have time to lean, you have time to clean" mentality is the worst

  • waited for a customer to come. He happened to walk in not even 5 minutes after we sat down, and he began screaming in our faces about us slacking off. He told me to go f myself. So I grabbed all of my things and left. Then I blocked his number I had no job lined up, and while it was hard to get something else I finally got one. It's still retail and
  • I've been here 5 months but it's a LOT better than whatever the f that was. Hang in there, you'll know when you're done!

  • The boss clearly didn't understand the severity of the situation here

new girl what to do to help. Finally got hold of my manager, told her the situation and she said "do the best you can until 9pm". I asked if she was serious and reminded her that I physically could not stand up, she said "I can't come cover but you can't close early". I hung up and immediately closed the store

  • thruitallaway34 I was a shift leader at a very busy 99only. My boss got in to the habit of sending the cashiers home early and having myself and the other night manager on registers. She would then go home and expect us to simultaneously manage the store, including unload trucks, deal with the armoured truck money guys,
  • and simultaneously cashier. And it was obviously impossible. So one day she pulled the only cashier off register and said she could go home 2 hrs early. I said, "if you send her home, I'm going home too."
  • She didn't think I was serious. So I got my sh and left.
  • This worker had to do the impossible

p inannyBOOSH I was the only accounting person left in my office at a Sam's Club (1 you!), the eliminated the only full time position, which was my superior. Whenever I had a day off, I had two days worth of stuff to catch up on in 4 hours, as I was part time. I'm supposed to have security since the safe is in there, yet the managers blatantly
  • disregarded them. One time they emptied the cash donations from one of their collections things, dumped it all on my desk, and walked out. Could've left it in the d box, Anyway, last straw was when I was promised that I could train someone to help me out just on my days off. First person, they took her away.
  • after day 1 and that was that. Second person I kept being allowed to only half a train because they kept taking her for bs stuff. Took her to watch the self checkouts, hour later asked hey, need her back so I can finish. "oh she's not training today". Immediately blew up. at her, cussed her out saying she promised, and she ran away. Go back to my
  • office and wait for the fallout, that manager comes back with a second one (normal as a witness), about started talking bulls watching my language for "respect". Blew up at them again, "I think it's best you go home for the day", after I blatantly said already that I quit.
  • Then they tried to claim that they fired me lol, and tried to under part my pto. Made them to back and calculate that וי and did got a higher number on my last check, but still got shorted.
  • starface016 I was assistant manager and the company filed chapter 11 and my store was closing. I was one of the few who were told they didn't have a position for them but also asked for me to finish closing the store as acting manager. I waited until I was the only one and quit leaving everyone to scramble
