Here are the kiddos on their way to be duped by Dad
-
When this Dad discovered that his 2 kids had spent a small fortune on Minecoins, he decided to teach them a lesson. Literally, not figuratively.
As he showed in a TikTok video that's been gaining criticism, he modeled his plan after his kids enjoying “stories with lessons in them.” And, to his credit, I don't think his kiddos will forget this one.
As he speaks to the camera, he tells his son and daughter that he's giving them an “$850 shopping spree for your rooms at the house.”

I think most of us would react exactly the same!

The kids start picking out toys. They are literally jumping up and down with glee, skipping through the aisles with delight.
The kids bounce between aisles at the store, picking out what appears to be dozens of toys. They're really living out their dreams in these moments. You can tell they spent a long time wandering Target, hitting up not just the toy section, but even the sporting goods and electronics sections. Dad eggs them on the entire time, as he continually asks them if they want more things. “Get it!” he cheers as they bring items to the cart.
The kids get riled up, they seem like they're having the times of their lives. Toward the end of the trip, Dad ramps it up: he takes them to pick out matching TVs. Even at their young ages, these kids are thrilled to pick out 32" Roku TVs for their bedrooms.
And then… just before checkout…
Dad says, “The lesson behind this story is that you guys between the months of January and March spent that much money on Minecraft coins on my credit card.”
Here's the thing: his older daughter understands immediately, and looks shocked and upset. But the son, who's a little younger, doesn't really look like he knows what's going on. Dad keeps going, looking at his befuddled son, chiding the kids by saying, “You could've had all that. But instead, you got Minecraft coins. Do you have anything to show for it?"

As the family leaves the Target empty-handed, the son turns back towards his Dad and expresses that he doesn't know what happened.
This probably would've been a more effective lesson if it was taught before the kids spent a whopping $850 on Minecoins. I wonder if the children actually understood the point of the lesson. The daughter might have, but I think it can be hard for kids to grasp the concepts of money's worth until they actually have a job of their own.
Not to mention that when they spent the Minecoins, they were using Dad's credit card, right? Why didn't he stop this if it took place over 3 months? How did the kids even know all his credit card info? Something's not adding up.
And, maybe most importantly, will this even stop the youngsters from doing the same thing again? Next time they go to spend money on Minecoins, they might just think, “Well, at least Dad will take us to Target — he won't let us buy anything there, but he won't be upset, either.”
People had a lot of thoughts about this piece of so-called Dad wisdom. But they took the side of the store employees, who Dad clearly didn't think about as he let his kids ransack the place for his own lesson.

A LOT of people were pretty peeved that Dad stocked that cart towering high with stuff... then just left it

See? Most of the top comments were reflecting on the Dad's selfish shopping trip
I mean, the employees make the same amount of money whether they're reorganizing the store or working the cash register. But it was an annoying thing he did! And he might make those workers have to stay late that day in order to put back every item in his kids' little "lesson."
