Context: The city I live in "discovered" the school district was roughly $10 million in debt. Whoopsies? So one thing they did was reorganize the school buildings.
  • They combined the middle schools into one building well as the two high schools into another building. This left one building completely empty, and then out the Montessori, Charter and alt high school all into one of the old middle school buildings. The
  • Charter school and Montessori then had no playground, but instead, a very muddy soccer pitch.
  • Efforts to build a playground for these kids was finally initiated, pushed back on a lot by the city and school board and so on. A fund raiser was started in which you can spend $250 to buy a brick which will be used in the building of the eventual playground.
  • This city has had a string of mismanaging money. A few years ago, they decided to purchase a gondola (tourism reasons sited).
  • It cost close to $10 million. It then sat uncovered in a parking lot for several years. Mind you, this place is located in a rainforest.
  • An outside school playground with a basketball hoop mounted against a brick wall.
  • The gondola is now rusted out, and they want to ship it out to be repaired.. to the tune of ~$40 million dollars.
  • The city also wants to have a new city hall, but refuses to use the empty school building, or other perfectly suitable alternatives.
  • Now to the petty. A local who was on the school board previously has purchased some bricks for the playground,
  • and on these bricks he had messages printed out such as how the city wanted to fund a gondola that has sit unused for years literally rotting (the city will ALWAYS prioritize tourists).
  • Another brick mentions that the city preferred to fund a city hall over a playground and so on. He even went so far as to call out other board members.
  • The fact this guy is just.. literally putting in stone how horrible these people are? Priceless value petty. The current board members are very b hurt over it, the residents here are meanwhile celebrating.
  • A group of three kids gathers in the school playground.
  • chewbaccab I think I'd buy another $10 mil gondola before I spent $40 mil to fix the first one
  • thegloracle The whole town has a wonderful opportunity here....
  • Kurigohan-Kameh... Maybe we should all chip in and get a few bricks ourselves. I bet we'd have interesting things to say.
