Older sister defends her 13-year-old brother when he sets boundaries with a toxic friend, even when the boy's mom comes over unannounced to complain: 'That kid's mom can't accept [it]'

When her younger brother needed her most, she was there to answer the front door.

At 13 years old, this boy was already better versed in setting personal boundaries than most adults, but when he started drawing a line in the sand with his overbearing friend, it was his sister who swooped in to save him. And it wasn't the middle schooler who was caught breaking down the family's front door; it was the likes of the boy's mother: a woman who refused to take 'no' for an answer.

It's always a tough realization when you feel yourself drifting from a once-cherished friend.

Not all of us are meant to be friends for life, and long-term friendships are far rarer than people realize. Truthfully, I don't think I'm still friends with anyone I was close with in my middle school years, and I think that's totally natural. So many things change in your tween and teen years, especially your sense of self, and there may come a day when the homies you once played with at the park will become just a mere memory instead of a frequent contact on your phone. And that's totally fine. We don't all need to be forever besties with every acquaintance from our elementary school bus.

The rift first forms when you start sending text message excuses to get out of plans together, and comes to final friendship-ending fruition when it's clear that you don't want to spend time with another person anymore. Sometimes friendships slip quietly into the night, tipping their hats in mutual respect and agreement, but there are other times when an overbearing friend can't let go, forcing themselves upon the other like a parasite of social proportions.

A young lad in this story saw that his "friend" wasn't treating him right anymore. He tried to slip away, but his friend turned out to be just as pushy and overbearing as his mother, the godzillian parent who came crashing down on the family home for some undeserved answers.
