When you start to meet more than few cats, you start to understand that most of them are highly unusual in the best of ways. Some have no concept of purrsonal space, some only drink from blue water glasses, and others turn out to be unlike any cat you've ever met. Some cats and hooman pairs are just meant to be.

You can never truly know the purrsonality of a cat upon meeting it. Cats are naturally shy creatures, and they are known for taking their time to get used to new people and places. It makes sense, after thousands of years of evolution teaching them that the cautious cat usually survives the longest. Even though the worst thing they'll have to survive in your house is being fed 5 minutes late for dinner, their genetics don't understand that.

But what we've found more often than not is that when a cat truly opens up to you, and your family, it's one of the most rewarding expurriences. To us, ironically, the best cats have always ended up being like dogs. Loyal, affectionate, and with a rare desire to make you happy, not just themselves. It happens when the purrfect hooman meets the purrfect cat, then meowgic unlike any other happens.

Usually, cats that grow up with dogs learn not to fear them, but a stray or someone's outdoor cat having not even a hint of hesitation upon approaching an unknown dog? The fact that they describe the cat as “dog-like” just confirms that this cat is truly special. And that it trusted them from the beginning. But here's the real secret: that was only the beginning for the hooman. As the dog-lover said earlier in their post, they spent around a year randomly seeing this cat around the neighborhood. We suspect that this cat had been watching them the whole time. Learning about them. Trying to understand them. On his own time, he learned to trust them, and hoped that one day, they would take him.
