Man witnesses baby deer getting abandoned after birth, then becomes the parent it never had: 'Sometimes love shows up stronger than nature itself and that’s what makes this so powerful'

Nature can be cruel, but we have the power to defy nature.

The animal kingdom is not the Disney movie we all grew up believing it was. It's ruthless. It's a ruthless life of survival of the fittest, where many don't survive to see another day. Take baby turtles, for example. From the moment they are ready to come out of their eggs, they face adversity. Assuming they're not trampled on first, they risk getting eaten by birds on their way to the ocean. Many don't make it past the first few days in the ocean, with around only 1 in 1,000 making it to adulthood.

All of this is to say that the beginning of this story is not exceptional in any way, although it is hard to watch. A man witnesses a mother deer giving birth, then immediately rejects her child, leaving it there, all alone. Luckily, the man came to the doe's rescue and started to raise the baby deer as his own pet. He met all the neighbors, even becoming a star amongst the neighborhood kids. He bonded wholesomely with his new dad's cat, and the two still love grooming each other.

No one knows why the mother left her baby there to fend for itself, but what the man did after is what makes us believe that humans are good. It's a dog-eat-dog world out there, but we can make it so that dogs, and even baby deer, never have to feel the fear of abandonment ever again.

We used to live in an area that was full of deer. Every spring, you would see so many little baby deer that were so cute. We've always wanted to pet one, but deer are quite skittish, you won't get within 8 feet before they bolt off into the distance. This one, however, looks like it acts more like a dog than a wild deer!
