A new landowner begins escalating control over a shared rural driveway, sparking conflict with long-time residents who rely on it for access to their home.

Moving out into the country to get away from every sound like a great idea, it's often seen as the ultimate escape. Fewer people, fewer problems. The problem becomes that there are quite a few people who apply this logic when they themselves are the problem.

There are plenty of classic sayings that illustrate different aspects of these points, such as "If you meet one schmuck in the morning, chances are they're just a schmuck. But if you go around meeting schmucks all day, you're the schmuck." This happens all the time, where people move somewhere or go on vacations to dream destinations and are ashamed to find that they are still unhappy, as they have brought their problems with them.

Particularly for those who view others as the problem, the issues they see within their surroundings are actually issues with themselves and the way that they interact with those surroundings. So, when they move out into all of that land out in the country, the problems aren't left behind but, rather, continue to expand like a gas to fill the space around them. And, no matter how far they are away from them, the simple fact of the matter is that they're going to end up with their land bounding up with some poor neighbor who is about to feel the entire brunt of that pent-up problem making.
This can create massive isolated clashes with neighbors, which are fueled by being out of sight and out of mind to the rest of the world, quickly devolving into long-lasting feuds and he-said-she-said confrontations that devolve and evolve quite quickly and contrast with the peace of the surrounding area.
You see stories like this often, and this one is no different. With this new neighbor, it was no different. The family had lived in the home for a decade, but when a new neighbor bought the field next to their rural home, she began making increasing demands, culminating in trespassing on their own driveway.
