When you woof to your dog child and they get all excited, it's because they think you're making an effort to learn their language. For them, it's not "dog language" - it's just a different dialect. Because, in their eyes, they are just like you. And just as they love you as a weird and tall dog, we know you love them just as they are. Woofs, drools, zoomies and all.

When a dog acts like a dog, it's not surprising. But a dog acts like a human, it might get some people thinking. "Does my dog think he's a human?", "Is my dog aware that he's a dog?", "Will my dog start walking on two and paying the mortgage?". All are natural questions a dog pawrent might have after learning that dogs basically see us as weird, two-legged dogs, who would rather do weird activities like going to work, rather than go to the dog park and fetch some sticks.

But it's actually not surprising at all that some dogs may think they're human. We raised dogs to the human standard, after all. They were wild wolves just a few thousand years ago. But all that wilderness grit went away in favor of playfulness, round face and eyes, and the strange desire to be more human-like. Or, rather, they want to make us more dog-like? We're not sure about that.

No matter what we do, what we say, and how human your dog actually feels - your dog will always be your baby. It doesn't have to do with their age either. Dogs are babies even when they're adult dogs, and even when they're old, senior dogs, with many years of doggo experience.
