What's the mystery behind pregnant cats knowing exactly where to turn to for help with delivery, nursing, and the general care she will need?

The answer to this age-old question is divided into two answers, which basically say the same thing: a pregnant cat has an insane drive to find safety, in ways that most of us don't even begin to understand. It's a meowgical instinct that's explained in these two parts:

First, there's the basic drive instilled by the Cat Distribution System in cats in need of a home. The CDS is a true mystery, but many people attest that the cat they seemingly "just found" was the perfect fit for them - in temperament, in time, and in availability. As if the cat adoption was staged and suited just for them. And this is why many cat pawrents who adopted their cats this way think it was all orchestrated by this mysterious body, entity, or whatever they are. It's like they install an "adopt me" software into a cat, and everything else sort of falls into place.

And then you have the Trojan Cat sub-genre of adoptions. It's not just a cat in need - it's a female cat who's about to turn into multiple cats very soon. And she needs a safe place to do it in. Enter: you. Or the person the CDS matched with her. But jokes aside, a pregnant cat really does have a meowgical instinct in her to birth in the safest environment she can has (Can Has, get it?). Most modern-day pregnant women don't even feel it, with our hospitals and advanced medical capabilities. But a pregnant cat on the streets? She has a very different story. So, why the name? Just like a Trojan Horse hiding soldiers in its belly, so can the Trojan Cat, just with more kittens and less warfare.

This one pregnant cat, Roxy, had it all in one package - and no, we're not talking only about her pregnancy. She had this whole adoption deal that includes her future kittens, sure, but also medical complications and hardships. But they all ended up with a happy ending, inside a happy and loving home.

“She appeared in my garden last November looking suspiciously chonky. Had 6 kittens in December. 3 months of cray-cray fostering them and finding them loving forever homes. A failed spay and heart murmur scare. Heat cycle after heat cycle. Another successful attempt but the incision site got infected. Weeks in a cone. So much misery for the both of us. Finally after 5 long months, she got the all-clear from the vet this morning! Roxy is deflead, dewormed, vaccinated, chipped and spayed. Enjoying life in the sun in her garden, never to be pregnant again, safe and healthy.”

“Personal network. My daughters friends. The school mums. The neighbourhood group. My husbands colleagues. My colleagues. My friends. Husbands dude group. Basically anyone I know in real life so I get a chance to see them once in awhile and be 100% sure they’ll be in good homes and fixed. It was a bit up and down though. A couple of adopters pulled out and had to scramble to find new ones. I thought the two Fatboy Twins were bonded when they were born and initially managed to get someone to take both of them. But the person pulled out and as they grew, turns out they were not bonded. So they went to separate homes. All worked out it the end but not with a little drama.”
