16-year-old calls her single mom greedy because she bought an iPad for her small business instead of buying her a new phone: 'It seems like she has money, but always doesn’t have it for me.'

How could she possibly know the details of her mother's financial situation?

When you're young, it's easy to be incredibly juvenile about money. If you have it, you spend it! If you have the money to spend on it, you can certainly afford it! Young spoiled kids have little to no sense of how much work (or dumb luck) goes into acquiring a large sum of money. They might have a rudimentary understanding that the way to keep money is not to spend it, but they lack the discipline to put it into practice.

Some parents choose to spend a lot of their hard-earned money on their spoiled rotten kids, and that's their prerogative. You might think it's asinine for your coworker's daughter to have 50 American Girl dolls, considering that's $5,000 that could go towards her college fund. But if you're not the parent, you don't have a say in how parents spend their money on their kids! The person who has the least say in how their parents spend their money is their kids. A lot of kids think their parents are made of money because they live in a nice house and have two cars, but they don't see all the hard work that goes into maintaining such a lifestyle.

The teen in this story hasn't always gotten exactly what she wanted.
“My dad left when my 13-year-old sister was born and hasn't really been involved since, so my mom raised us alone. Because of that money was always tight in our family. Growing up I never asked for something that wasn't absolutely neccessary and always tried to save up some money to buy things I want.”

Despite having a difficult start, her mom has made a good living for herself and her girls.
"My mom does bakery for a living and has a really small business. Recently it has started doing a lot better. She bakes cakes, all other bakery for local cafes plus takes orders from people via her socials. Important remark here. I know she works hard so we can live normally and have all of our basic needs covered and I don't pretend for her money. I also always help her with packing orders and deliveries whenever she asks.
My issue is that she constantly says we have no money though business is up and she bought herself a new laptop and an iPad within this month. Maybe she needs a laptop because of work for orders, invoices and messaging clients. But the iPad, I’m not sure about it. What also annoys is that she hides both devices whenever she leaves the house. And it looks like she knows it looks bad."

The teen decided to confront her mother about this supposed unfairness, but it didn't go as she had hoped.
"I’ve been saving money for a new phone from babysitting, helping neighbors, tutoring and small weekend jobs bc my phone is very old and is bad. Four days ago I asked if she could add some money to my savings so I could buy a new one. I didn’t ask to pay in full for me, but just to add some funds.
All I heard was she angrily said no, called it unnecessary expense in our situation and then her classis we don’t have money. That also hurt because my younger sister always gets random gifts. And for her it seems like she has money, but always doesn’t have it for me.
I got really upset, a bit mad and said she was being greedy and lying about money. She has it for her gadgets that she hides from us and my sister’s gifts, but never for me, even when I ask for something ain’t big. She got furious, called me ungrateful, that I don’t understand bills, how hard being a single mom and that her money isn’t mine."
