The popularity of these glasses has really divided people (what else is new in today's day and age?). Some people do not want to be recorded without their knowledge, and find these glasses completely creepy. Then, on the other hand, people are wearing them, and they just don't seem to care about what the naysayers think. They want to wear their frames and record their lives. And even though I fall in the former category, I think these glasses are about to see a huge boost in popularity.
Much like the woman in this story, I got recorded without my knowledge at a concert recently. I was dancing and having a fantastic time… until I saw a man take his glasses from his pocket and slowly hold them in a circle, capturing the room. Then he held them up like how you'd take a selfie with a phone, and that was when I realized that he was rocking some surveillance glasses! I froze in place: I didn't realize my awkward dance moves were being forever recorded by some random guy in front of me. Then, even more horrifyingly, I realized that his 2 friends were also wearing these smart glasses. I'd been recorded for ages with zero idea. Instantly, I was having a much less fun time.
But who could blame these people wearing glasses, really? A concert is a public space, and dozens of other people were recording with their phones. And it made think about the sales pitch for these glasses, which could be something like: “Why miss a moment of your kid's soccer game, when you can effortlessly record it on your glasses? You get to live in the moment, and you still have all your footage to cut together a cute IG video later on.” Now apply that logic to vacations, family gatherings, friend meetups, and so on.
This woman has also experienced that sudden jolt, the realization that she, too, has been recorded without knowing about it beforehand. Here's what she had to say…

Went to our anniversary dinner at a nice restaurant tonight where we were recorded by our server, apparently through his glasses, without our permission for his Instagram channel. As we paid, he showed us his Instagram channel and showed us the video he took and asked if he could post it.
The gasp I would've gusped!
All of this is wild. I wonder how many other guests have been shown the channel! Do you think he routinely asks this to the guests? Do they ever say yes??
Now, I know what you're thinking: she should ask for a manager. That is exactly what she did next:
We asked him to delete it and if his manager knew he was recording diners. He just said no one else has ever complained. I asked to talk to the manager. Manager seemed to know and asked “if the light was on.” I assume this meant on the glasses indicating he was recording. We noticed no light. He said he would make him remove the glasses, which was how we became aware he was recording with the glasses. Needless to say, I am now a dog with a bone and this is not over.

Just so dystopian!
I imagine this would be prohibited in a lot of workplaces… but just think of how many videos there are of, say, a sandwich maker going down the line making a sandwich for a customer, or a worker making a milkshake and handing it off to someone. There are videos from the POVs of delivery drivers. In fact, some commenters have had their own run-ins with this conumdrum:
When I last moved, after movers finished unpacking, one of them live-streamed walking through our house. I asked what he thought he was doing. He said, “Showing people what I do for work.” With my possessions, inside my house, while my minor daughters were walking around???

Another person had this happen:
This happened to a friend of mine at a sports centre with his daughter. The guy wearing the glasses refused to take them off & even tried to get his manager to intervene on his behalf. When she realised his glasses could video she sent him home. Unbelievably entitled and creepy.
The woman who got recorded by the waiter noted that he had her credit card at one point, too. So yeah. There's no limit to what someone with these glasses can do, and it gets more invasive and creepy the longer you consider it.
Finally, she added this as an update regarding her viral post.
Regarding my viral tweet: We need to draw lines somewhere. I’m drawing a hard line at dining in restaurants that allow their servers to record their customers, and potentially their credit cards, without consent. Whether or not they post it online. I don’t wish to dine with a camera shoved in my face. Security cameras do not enter my personal space like servers do. BTW: It was not a national chain, but a locally owned restaurant.
