Do parents have a right to request money from their adult children?

There are a lot of moms and dads who feel that by virtue of raising them, their kids owe them something in return once they are old enough to live semi-independently. They reason that at least some of the time and money they spent on them as children deserves to be paid back somehow, and they aren't interested in any arguments against that point of view.

However, as so many generations of teenagers have eloquently put it, it isn't like those kids asked to be born. Moreover, it is a right and not a privilege that parents provide for their children before they are adults. To say the least, it is flawed logic.

Nonetheless, there are many grown-up children who are dealing with the burden of parents who want to mooch off of them. If they live together and there's an expectation to pay rent, that is probably fair enough, but constantly requesting a child to fund their lifestyle while making no effort to do that themselves hints at a deeper problem. It is an annoying thing to have to deal with from your parents.

A married woman was sick of her parents' constant requests to lend them money that never got paid back. Although they asked her, most of the responsibility for this fell on her husband, and she didn't work. They had requested tens of thousands over the years, mostly to cover the property taxes on their home.
Neither of her parents worked, and things got to a point where she told her mom that she and her husband would not be giving them any more money. Still, when she visited them, they started to make further requests for smaller amounts. They were annoyed when she rejected them, but she felt like she needed to stand firm.
