Cat lovers all abide by one simple, unspoken rule: If the cat is sleeping on your lap, you can't disturb them.

Not all cats are cuddlers, but every cat has a meowment where they're supremely cozy and can't resist a quick snuggle. To them, humans are an enormous thermoregulated heat bed that comes complete with a dual-action arm for petting and another for dishing out doses of sardine treats. Cats don't always see us as their coziest nap spot in the house, but when they do, it's sacred.

Most often, cats find humans to be a simple component in their lives. Humans are devoted servants, canned food openers, feather flingers, and kibble replenishers. Occassionally, cats will witness a split second of their humans being reprimanders, but that's only when they bite your ankles at night or knock your favorite mug off the countertop. Otherwise, cats can truly get away with anything in the house. It's their kitty purrogative.

Lo and behold, that leads me to my first and most important point: cat naps.

When napping, a cat can never be disturbed. It's the law. Especially when a cat is purring peacefully, sleeping on your lap with their beady little eyes pinched closed, that feline must never be disturbed. If you're a cat lover who's experienced the weight of this burden (despite your cat only weighing 7 lbs), you know that, like Mjölnir, Thor's immovable hammer, a sleeping cat on your lap can never be moved. It's for this reason that duos of cat lovers who live with one another are happy to help each other out when the other is pinned by the house cat. If they need a glass of water, a snack refill, or even a lapped cat transfer, their partner must be happy to oblige.

So the next time you have a sleepy eepy kitten curled up like a cinnamon roll, be sure to let them peacefully, blissfully drift away into a cat nap. It's the law according to the world of cat lovers, and if broken, some feline enforcers will come to reprimand you in return. Prepare for a spritzing from the punishment spray bottle, because the cat community is very serious about this notion.
