Would you be upset if your wedding title was suddenly demoted?

Humans are simple creatures. We like to be told that we're important. We like to know that we're needed by the people in our lives. That includes our friends, and at their weddings. That's what happened in this story, shared on the MildlyInfuriating subreddit. They ask us to be a part of them, and we're flattered by that. We like knowing that we're appreciated and loved and looked after. If that means putting some sweat and tears into planning the bachelorette party, then so be it. It's a beautiful part of friendship, and one that we hope is reciprocal. If someone makes you the maid of honor at their wedding, that's a pretty big deal. It's one of the symbolic things we can do for each other that holds real weight in the world. It lets them know just how much you care about them, and how much you're willing to do for them. Symbols matter. They're not just empty. We imbue them with tons of meaning, so it's understandable when we get a little attached to them. That's what happened in this story, where a bride did a pretty mean-spirited fake-out to one of the members of her bridal party.
