He was handed into a vets as a stray, weighing barely 2kg (4.4lbs) and with a nasty tumour in his ear. Thank you to the power of the microchip (and mum not changing her number) we were reunited !!

We paid for the tumour to be removed and despite all the risk factors weighing against him (he was 16, severely anaemic, and they knicked an artery during the sur ry, almost causing him to bl d out) he made a full recovery!!

We still have no idea where he went that whole time. He went missing in 2012 and we got him back last year, and he was found about 25km (15.5 miles) away from our home. But it's crazy how much a bit of love (and food) can do ③

Heavy-Lingonbery910 Did he recognise you after all that time or did he act like you were strangers?
  • 07
Agreeable-Rich-8509 OP We actually don't know because he is super sweet to everyone! He did come up to us for pats straight away but apparently he'd been loving on the vet nurses too ②I think he might though because he favours me a lot more over my partner and we both feed/give him the same about of attention

top_value7293 Wow that's amazing. I'd not let him go outside anymore ever

Agreeable-Rich-8509 OP He is 100% an indoor cat, he was when he got out too but we had just moved to a new place and he didn't know the area. I think someone may have picked him up because he was always super friendly

AccomplishedAnchovy Interesting he only shows up when he needs you

Agreeable-Rich-8509 OP That's what we found so crazy also! The vet said he definitely wouldn't have lasted another week out there with how malnourished he was. Talk about divine intervention

TitShark Oh my god, if I lost an animal for that long, there's no way I'd expect to see them again. Man what a feeling that must have been
  • 21
Agreeable-Rich-8509 OP It was absolutely insane, I still remember the feeling when mum told me over the phone. It didn't feel real, up until we actually saw him I was convinced they somehow had the wrong cat. He went missing right before my 13th birthday, and I was 26 when we got him back
  • 22
swizzzz22 How's his character etc as compared to when you had him before?
  • 23
Agreeable-Rich-8509 OP He's the same crazy, loving boy that he was! Even at 16 years old he's a nutjob some times, runs around crazy howling at us and he will sit on your lap and purr for 45mins straight as hits the couch soon as your

SAINTnumberFIVE He was probably being cared for as a neighborhood cat for quite some time, or possibly he was part of a feral cat colony that was being fed.

Agreeable-Rich-8509 OP We do think someone must've been taking care of him for at least a little bit, there's no way he was on the streets for 12.5 years and is still as sweet as he is. We were told the person who handed him in found him hanging around an abandoned house that seemed to have old bowls of food and water on the verandah. So we think possibly an old person was feeding him and then passed away or something like that
