Taking a vacation is no reason to dump your indoor cat outside, but that was not clear to the pawrents of our terrificed protagonist who took off, leaving their cat child to go on a vacation of his own, but never to return.

The age old question of what to do with your pets when you go on holiday is a tough one. And this story from Reddit's r/astoria subreddit is one example of what not to do. In the best case you might get someone to come to your home and play and feed your cat children. But even that has its risks with cats slipping out of slightly ajar doors. So some pawrents take the approach of defeatism and apparently just let their cat make the best of life outdoors until they return. After all, why spend all that money on a cat sitter if your cat is just going to get out anyway?

At least that seems to have been this family's approach, it was just pure luck that the Cat Distribution System stepped in and brought the abandoned feline to a cat loving hooman who would go above and beyond to help. And we have also got a slight issue here with the CDS itself. For the hooman they chose already had 4 cat children and a hooman one on the way, surely enough is enough and pulling on the emotional strings of a cat lover becomes somewhat cruel after a certain point? Wowza, a cat who does not move an inch even when presented with a juicy steak is indeed a cat in trouble. Or at very least a cat who is so stricken by fear that it cannot move. Either way this is no way to leave a cat, and this hooman was more than right in thinking that something ought to be done. As any feline pawrent will know, cat children are the most ravenous creatures on the planet. If they could, they would eat us out of house and home and often they do. So for a feline to straight up reject some of the finest food to have ever crossed its path is simply unreal.

Oh brother the struggle is real. Cat people will furever have this problem as much as it pains us to say it. No matter how many cats or hooman kids you have in your home, there always seems to be more space available for cats. It is something that follows you around wherever you go, just waiting to drop another cat into your arms for you to love and care for. It is, as many of you know, the Cat Distribution System. We have never quite looked at it from the angle of somewhat taking advantage of cat loving hoomans, but in reality that is kinda what is happening…
