It's no secret that the job market is wackadoodle right now. Everyone knows someone who's out of work right now and the office world is crashing all around us. For many workers who have spent a lifetime getting degrees, building networks, and chasing a career, it's sort of a jobmageddon situation out there.
While it's disheartening to be hurled into the sea of uncertainty in the job market, there are a few small nuggets of positivity that can be found out there. Oftentimes, this positivity is self-generated, relying heavily on the job hunter's ultimate POV of their less-than-ideal situation.
This out-of-work careerman had been searching for a job for months, only to land a job offer that was worth a fraction of his previous wage. Instead of turning up his nose to a $75k salary, he rejoiced, knowing that some money coming in was better than no money at all. After all, in this market, beggars can't be choosers.
And instead of being humdrum and a bummer about his prospects, this man's outlook was wholesome and inspiring, challenging many others on Reddit's r/Layoffs subreddit to have a similar, uplifting outlook on their joblessness. While searching for something better paying, you might as well get a sprinkle of another company's experience, taking the meager pay as a minute blessing in a world with increasingly fewer opportunities. In truth, this man's outlook is truly inspiring and makes me think I should be more positive in the workplace.
We get so burnt out on what we should be making and what we should be doing that we, as a workforce, forget what really matters. If food is getting onto the table and our bills are being paid, there's not much more to complain about. While it'd be nice to have a little extra butter in the spinach (aka, more money in the bank account), if we're able to get by with what we have, that's a win for now. And these days, we all have to celebrate a win, no matter how small it seems.
